What do all of these books have in common? They all contain the FAKING DATING TROPE! I’ve been blessed with my last few ~romance~ reads.
As this is my first review wrap-up post, it’s worth sharing that this is how I’ll be doing reviews from now on — posting an excerpt and then linking readers to the full review on Goodreads. It just feels cleaner and I want Goodreads to be my main review platform.
Without further ado, let’s get on with the books. We have one of my most anticipated releases by one of my favorite YA authors and two buddy reads!
10 Things I Hate about Pinky by Sandhya Menon

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of 10 Things I Hate About Pinky in exchange for an honest review!
… it’s when the fake-dating turns real that I cringe. Things are real cute between Pinky and Samir… for about two seconds until Pinky says something and the relationship burns up in a matter of seconds. This is probably just a me thing. The conflict felt like it happened so fast and out of nowhere.
But even with that minor issue, I still thoroughly enjoyed 10 Things I Hate About Pinky. I absolutely love fake dating tropes. Pinky is such a fun character; even when she’s being a pain, you can’t help but cheer her on during her social justice pursuits. I loved the story of friendship between Pinky, Dolly, and Samir and the conclusion was extremely satisfying. Also, there’s a possum named Drama Queen who fake-dies every few minutes and that’s absolutely adorable to me…

Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall

Thank you to the Libro.FM Influencer program for providing me with an ALC of Boyfriend Material in exchange for an honest review!
Buddy read with Emily! ♥
I’m a fan of the fake-dating & enemies-to-lovers tropes, which this book has both of so HASHTAG BLESSED. I thoroughly enjoyed the ship-portion in Boyfriend Material; it took a while to actually like anyone in this book, but Oliver ended up growing on me followed by Luc. As for side-characters, there was a huge cringe factor here. It felt like a lot of them were made just for comedy and, unfortunately, some of the jokes fell flat for me. With that being said, there are some LOL moments!

The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa

Buddy read with Destiny! ♥
Right off the bat, I just want to say that his book holds so many romance tropes that I am 100% HERE FOR. Oh no, there’s only one bed in this room, should we share it? CHECK. Fake dating? CHECK. Enemies-to-Lovers? CHECK. Mia Sosa did THAT.
The Worst Best Man was pretty cute — it’s exactly what I was looking for when I was in the mood for a rom-com. Our main characters, Lina and Max bicker a lot and it legit has you screaming for more. And when they’re soft & cute? PALS, THEY ARE SOFT AND CUTE.
Of course, there are a few issues I had in The Worst Best Man…
